Room to move

When Loretta and Barnes decided it was time to undertake the project of transforming their 1900’s period Newtown home they had a clear vision of the space they wanted to create. The brief was for a functional family renovation that not only transformed their home to a sophisticated but allowed them to make use of the large sloping Newtown block.

Working with Architects Paul Di Stefano Design, Panozzo Builders were presented with a sympathetic renovation design that married the original home to a new, expansive family space. The new space incorporated a large kitchen dinning space that transformed to an entertainers delight with large glass doors that opened fully to the expansive back deck. The deal entry laundry was genius in design and positioning. Tucking into the side of the entertaining deck but remaining practical for daily use with its proximity directly from kitchen.

The stunning fireplace and embedded raised concrete lining the walls of the family space was the idea of the owners and provide function and purpose for displaying decor but also as seating when the space opens up to entertaining.

Natural lighting fills the space and the high ceilings complimented by a stunning lighting selection give this space the wow factor.

With a side driveway, the current main entrance at the front of the house was not practical on a daily basis, so a stunning side entry was created. The use of slat timber along the entire north wall provided an aseptically pleasing outlook from the main room and offered a contemporary feeling that didn’t impact the streetscape of the period home.

A central double width timber stairwell connects the original home and bedrooms to the new space and a cleverly hung, giant sliding door which slides flush into the wall allows the home owners to section the space if required for entertaining or heating effeciency.
